Spotfire fivethirtyeight theme
fivethirtyeight.com produces gorgeous graphs & plots. Even if they don’t really follow a consistent color scheme and format, it does exist a « fivethirtyeight » ‘s theme. (for exemple, there’s a R package adding a fivethirtyeight touch to ggplot’s plots.)
Based on this article : 3 Minimalist Dashboards with Great Style from the (awesome) Plotly team, here’s a fivefirthyeight theme for Spotfire :
This theme features :
- Light gray background with dark text-color for better readability
- No ugly-solid border between visualizations
- Big readable centered titles for visualizations
- fivethirtyeight’s color palette (categorical & continuous scale)
- many other default settings & tweaks for clearer and nicer graphs !
The Spotfire analysis also contains a special trick (custom HTML&JS) allowing you to have a floating legend above your chart :
This feature will be detailled in an upcoming blog post so be sure to be notified by subscribing to our newsletter or by following us on twitter !.
Fivethirtyeight sometime’s use alternate color scheme, a dedicated tab allows you to use those colors and alternate graphs.
Last but not least, this theme contains an « About » tab with a great fade-in intro card :
As usual, the dxp is available for download on Exchange.ai

Awesome, great style !
Très très beau !
Gorgeous! Merci.
A ta disposition,
Benjamin
